In March this year, I was elected as Vice President of Tamborine Mountain Basketball to learn the ropes of the role and shadow our Interim President, Jessica Fern. My internship is now complete and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Club President.
Over the past 5 months, Jessica has provided fantastic stewardship of our Club. Under her leadership, we have seen the Club continue to make strides forward as a quality sports provider for kids in our local community and as a respected basketball club in our region. Jessica has mobilised a talented committee of 13 volunteers that work hard to deliver for our Club members in the areas of basketball operations, coaching, management, finance, administration, registrations, events, uniforms, marketing, social media and community engagement. She has overseen one of our strongest individual season performances, with 50% of our teams finishing in the top 3 in their divisions and doubling the total number of Wolves players making representative teams during her tenure with the Wolves.
I have seen firsthand the tireless efforts that Jessica has invested in the Club for our kids, and we are all the better for it. I am appreciative of the opportunity to learn from her directly as I take carriage of the torch in the next phase of the Club’s journey moving forward. On behalf of the entire Wolves Committee, I would like to extend a wholehearted thank you to Jessica for stepping in to take on the role of Interim President at a critical transitioning point for our Club.
I also want to recognise her significant contributions as Director of Coaching over the 18 months leading up to her presidency. During that period not only did she develop our style of play and provide much needed guidance for our coaches & players, she also engaged in various roles wherever needed, dedicating much of her time to operations, policy development, social media, and events. Her business acumen and operational expertise has proven invaluable for the Club, ushering in a new phase of efficiency. We’re grateful she’ll continue her involvement with the Club, coaching her teams and providing guidance to coaches and players across various age groups with her vast basketball knowledge.
I also want to express our gratitude to our Club’s founder, Adam Chanter. His visionary approach continues to inspire us, and his commitment to community engagement is a tremendous asset to the Wolves.
I will have plenty more to say soon, but in the meantime, I look forward to getting to know more families as our teams push for further growth and development in Season 2. See you all court side!
Ben
